Conference Of The Birds
This multi-paneled painting began with the idea that we are all connected in the world. We are stardust. We are energy. Never truly dying… just transformed. We are a collective; embodying change and a reflection of nature.
While creating this artwork, Jones painted layers of abundant flora and feathers with the idea of life’s cornucopia.
This then led her down a path of mythology which brought her to a classic twelfth-century Persian epic poem, “Conference Of The Birds.” In this story, a flock of birds go in search of the true King, Simorgh, who lives on a mountain of Kaf. Drawn from all species, the flock travels through the seven valleys: Quest, Love, Understanding, Detachment, Unity, Amazement, and Death. The birds that endure reach the mountain to learn a profound lesson: that Simorgh the King is, in fact, each of them, and all of them.
